WHO WE ARE

HTEP (Human Trafficking Education for Prevention) was founded in 2023 by a group of volunteers in Calgary, Alberta, who are committed to working towards preventing human trafficking through sharing what we have learned about how and why it happens, and how to minimize risk factors. We are not subject experts, but rather caring individuals who believe that we can work toward protecting others from this terrible, tragic form of slavery.

Our goal is to provide a first line of defense against human trafficking in Southern Alberta through awareness, education, and prevention. With a primary focus on serving Southern Alberta's vulnerable communities, we will provide support through educational material, workshops and ongoing dialogue with community members and leaders; and we will liaise with and support other anti-human trafficking organizations to achieve best outcomes.

Does human trafficking
really happen in Canada?

YES!  In Canada, we are not immune from human trafficking, as the chart below

illustrates [note that this graph is limited to only those incidents reported to

police and the numbers of incidents are, therefore, understated].

Who is at risk
of being Trafficked?

Anyone can be trafficked!  However, traffickers generally seek out and victimize more vulnerable individuals.
